BA&SH: Creating a Sustainable Future

The French Fashion brand BA&SH was founded by friends Sharon Krief and Barbara Boccara, whose names make up the brand’s unique title.

By embracing a bohemian aesthetic and using iridescent fabrics, the label aims to curate people’s everyday “ideal wardrobe.”

With its collection of flowing blouses, shimmery tops, and colorful dresses, BA&SH offers an array of stylish options to elevate any wardrobe. Personally, I made sure to purchase a few garments from BA&SH for my summer wardrobe.

In addition to its gorgeous lookbook, the brand also makes a fine contribution to the world of sustainability. I interviewed the manager of BA&SH on St. John’s Wood High Street, Munna Jacobs and the following is BA&SH’s journey towards sustainability.

The dedication of BA&SH to environmental sustainability is not just a mere statement but a true commitment.

This is displayed as the brand partners with Canopy, a nonprofit devoted to protecting the planet’s forests, wildlife, and climate.

In 2022, a significant 69% of BA&SH’s products contained at least 70% of certified materials including organic, recycled, and animal welfare-assured materials, as well as less-impacting materials like linen, raffia, and hemp.

Additionally, BA&SH utilizes natural fibers from tree plants to produce the synthetic fiber Viscose.

During our discussion, Jacobs highlighted the ways in which the brand promotes sustainability through its products.

Additionally, She spoke about how BA&SH promotes the brand through their products.

She emphasized the visibility of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) noting, “You can see the FSC in our labels, shopping bags, and tissue paper.”

She also mentioned, “ Sustainability is of the utmost importance to us, so we will give preference to packaging that has been bleached without the use of chlorine.”

Furthermore, Jacobs also underlined the global recognition of the FSC as an “international non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting the management of world forests.”

BA&SH aims to safeguard global forests and biodiversity through partnerships with organizations like Canopy.

Additionally, through its chic creations and ethical production processes, BA&SH is spearheading the way for a fashion industry that is more socially and environmentally responsible.

BA&SH’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond the materials it uses. The brand produces 90% of its leather in Europe, particularly in countries like Portugal, Spain, Italy, and France.

This is due to their ethical manufacturing processes. They strive to maintain healthy and ethical working environments for both workers and consumers.

Moreover, BA&SH insists that suppliers of artificial fibers must strictly follow environmentally responsible practices during the manufacturing process.

BA&SH’s sustainability efforts are not confined to the present but are forward-looking and innovative. In its sustainability report, the company expresses its intention to adopt innovative and modern approaches, such as implementing ‘closed-loop’ lyocell processing.

By prioritising the utilisation of certified materials and employing ecologically conscious methods, BA&SH is resolute in its efforts to minimize its environmental footprint.

Imagine being a shopaholic who typically purchases fast fashion items and frequently needs to discard clothes every two months. Now, picture the delight of buying a timeless top from BA&SH- a piece that you can adore for years to come.

By forging partnerships with organisations like Canopy, BA&SH is dedicated to the preservation of global forests and biodiversity.

Be sure to purchase your clothes from BA&SH, a brand paving the way for a fashion industry that is more socially and environmentally responsible through its chic designs and ethical production processes.
